The East Bay Symphonic Band (EBSB) is a community band with an open invitation to all who wish to play a wind or percussion instrument (no audition required). We believe that concert band is not just an activity for school children, it is recreation for all ages, and a way to build community.
Our goals are to provide a place for amateur musicians to perform together and improve their craft, and to create opportunities for local citizens to enjoy free concerts.
We rehearse on Monday nights, from 7pm to 9pm. Please check the calendar on our event page or contact us for more information.
Our membership is comprised of musicians that range from pre-teens to members in their eighties. Many members volunteer their time in schools as music coaches, mentors and instrument repair techs, and other teach music professionally, but not all of us are career musicians. Member occupations include students, military personnel, scientists, teachers, engineers, truck drivers and airline pilots. We also count many retirees among our ranks!
We cherish the opportunity to encourage growing musicians. We have younger members who have advanced through our ranks to become music educators and professional musicians.
We encourage members of the band to perform solos at our concerts. These have included such unique performances as Spike Jones impersonations and our own Bill Nemoyten, the nationally renowned, Mr. Horn-man.
For over 30 years, EBSB has called Hayward its home. We have moved from place to place, but our most recent rehearsal space is at the Hayward Odd Fellows Hall; we are thankful to the Sycamore Lodge #129!
The band has been making contributions to our East Bay community since 1982, performing regularly at the local senior and retirement centers. Some particularly special events have included the Golden Gate Park Band Festival in San Francisco and the commemoration of the 40th Anniversary Splash Down of Apollo 11 on the U.S.S. Hornet based in Alameda, CA.
EBSB members are often members of other performing groups and organizations. Many attend the ACB National Conventions and other conferences at the local, state and national level. EBSB musicians have also accepted invitations to join the Nevada County Invitational Community Band Concert held at Pioneer Park each July. Others may be found sitting on the Board of Directors of musical organizations or high school Band Boosters.
The East Bay Symphonic Band is dedicated to fostering a love for music by providing enriching performance opportunities for musicians of all skill levels. Our mission is to bring high-quality musical experiences to the community, support music education, and promote the cultural vitality of the East Bay through diverse and inspiring performances throughout the Hayward Area as well as the greater Bay Area.
